The official language of Belize is English.  You will also hear Spanish, Garifuna, Creole, and various Mayan dialects.

Our community is very focused on ensuring a safe environment for our visiting guests. That being said, we recommend taking the same precaution you take when traveling anywhere: Be respectful, secure your personal items, lock your doors and windows when departing the condo, lock your golf cart/bike, do not carry large quantities of money, do not carry your passport etc.

The island has a Police and Fire department, as well as a public clinic and private doctors. All hospitals are on the mainland. Additional security information is provided in each condo.

All businesses in Belize accept US or Belize dollars, therefore you do not need to exchange money to the Belize dollar prior to arrival. The exchange rate in country is a consistent US$1=BZ$2.

Most larger businesses accept credit cards (VISA or Mastercard) with a minimum purchase, however, we always recommend asking the business prior to using your card.

ATMs are available on the island. Keep in mind, the ATMs only dispense Belize currency.

Belize is in the Central Standard Time Zone (CST), however, we do not observe daylight savings, so in the Spring and Summer, we are on Mountain Standard Time.

Our outlets are same as North American standards (110 volt) – an adapter is not needed.

All condos are stocked with a 5 gallon jug of purified water for drinking which can be replenished as needed. Our water system at the property is treated and filtered, so water out of the tap is safe for cooking, making coffee, brushing teeth, rinsing vegetables etc.

Ice trays are provided in each freezer and are filled with purified water.

Most restaurants pour purified water and ice is always purified. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to ask your server.

This is probably the most common question we get asked! The overall climate of Belize can be described as sub-tropical with relatively consistent day time temperatures. We have primarily two seasons in Belize:

Winter Season (November – April) – Weather tends to be mild and relatively dry. Evenings can be slightly “cool”. Day time temps are typically in the mid 80’s with evening temps in the low to mid 70’s.

Summer Season (May – October) – Warmer and more humid weather is common, especially into August and September. While there is a higher chance of rain, our prevailing trade winds usually help move any weather systems through quickly. Temperatures can creep into the high 80’s, especially in late summer and the lows are in the low 80’s.

When looking at the weather forecast, use caution when using the international weather sites. Even though it may say San Pedro, it is probably a weather forecast for the mainland where it is warmer and the chance of rain is higher. We recommend http://nms.gov.bz/ for a more accurate weather forecast for the island.

After the weather question, the second most asked question is about mosquitoes. As we are a tropical location, we do have mosquitoes and “noseeums” on the island – especially after any rain. Our prevailing breezes really help, however, we still recommend applying a repellent with DEET in the morning and before sunset when the biting critters tend to come out more.

Beyond the basics, following are additional items you may want to pack:

• Lightweight sweater or shawl for the evenings
• Sturdy walking/hiking shoes – especially if you want to explore some of the mainland locations. Don’t forget the socks!
• Hat
• Water Resistant or Water Proof jacket
• Insect repellent with DEET
• Reef Safe/Eco Friendly Sunscreen
• Reusable water bottle
• Driver’s License (for golf cart rental)
• Dive Card (if certified)
• Shampoo/Conditioner/Lotion
• Reusable shopping bags

NOTE – Beach towels are provided in each condo – no need to take up valuable suitcase space packing extra towels!
